The Herren 2 “Wild Bees” came up short in point this weekend at Rohrbach with a 82-70 lost. Playing good man defense the “Wild Bees” were able to be ahead 38-36 going into the halftime break. “We have been able to work hard on our defense to be able to get thru picks and screens to shut the other team down” stated Coach Wicks. Our man defense coverage comes thru hard work, but also working together as “team defense” to keep teams out of their shooting habits.
The Bezirksliga “Wild Bees” faced the 1st place Viernheim/Weinheim at HWH this weekend, but fell short of pulling off an upset win with a 75-56 lost at home. But the “Wild Bees” showed the visiting team that the “Bees” have a defensive swarm that they will have to worry about. The “Wild Bees” were able to hold Viernheim to low point productions in the 1st, 2nd and 4th quarters, but fell short on producing points themselves. “Managing to hold they on defense, allowed us to actually get more shots but they just did not go in”, stated Coach Wicks.
In basketball there are certain quotes and words players hear, “got to come with your _A game”, hustle, intensity, focus, compete, drive, desire, “will to win”. This is what the “Wild Bees” ran into against Mannheim this weekend in a 93-45 loss. The game matched both teams with the same win-loss record in a standing changing game. The mood of the game was felt early as Mannheim came out with hard court intensity and a battling attitude. “I stated to the players, that Mannheim would be ready and coming with their top game from the start, which they did very effectively”.
The Herren 2 “Wild Bees” finally returned to the confines of its home court at Hardtwaldhalle this weekend with a 75-59 victory over USC Heidelberg 4. The “Wild Bees” started out slow in the first quarter and only had a 10 point output to Heidelberg’s 16, but then the defensive swarm of the “Wild Bees” started and they held Heidelberg to just 15 while producing 24 to take a 34-31 lead at halftime. The swarm did not let up after that and started to lengthen the lead with the third quarter ending at 53-42.
