The Herren2 “Wild Bees” got a home victory 68:64 against TSV Wieblingen on Saturday February 20, winning going down the stretch. The “Wild Bees” started slow with a low 1st quarter output advantage of 11-8, but turned on the flow with a 23 point 2nd quarter to lead at halftime 34-28. But as basketball goes, there are more than the players on the court. “I have always told the players, you play against 7 people on the court, the other team and the 2 Schiedsrichters” stated Coach Wicks. “The Schiedsrichters are as much of the game as the other team and can affect the outcome. “We lost 2 key players and the game condition was under-watch to try and keep them out of the game and let the game flow naturally” With 2 minutes left the “Wild Bees” had a 2 point lead 60-62, after a score by Wieblingen to tie it, timeout was called by Coach Wicks. “We had to pull away from trying to win the game by players making single decisions and go back to using a complete team flow to pull off a win.” Down the stretch, Alex Fuchs, when 1 for 2 at the free throw line, followed by a 2 pointer by Tommy Weidlich, but 3 for 4 free throw shooting by Flo Arnold was enough to stand off TSV Wieblingen to secure the home win 68-64. “We need to know that we win as a team, we have no star players, but a “star” has 5 points to shine”. The “Wild Bees” play at home this weekend against 1st place Wiesloch 2, we are hoping to continue to carry the team effort into this game.
